A light aircraft crash-landed near the Modderbee Prison on the East Rand on Tuesday.

The pilot had technical difficulties and was forced to make an emergency landing.

The two-seater plane came down in an open field near the prison.

Ekurhuleni emergency service's Louw Erasmus said the pilot was only slightly hurt.

"He was very lucky that he sustained only very minor injuries. At this point in time we are not transporting him to hospital, he has refused transport.

"We have turned the scene over to SAPS and we also requested the Civil Aviation Authority to visit the scene," he said.
