A Centurion man has told Eyewitness News that a senior police officer told him to rather use a private investigator, after he was hijacked.

Jan Botha was shot and wounded when he was held up in his driveway in Pierre van Ryneveld Park last year.

Botha said Lyttleton Station Commander, Director Vuyokazi Ndebele, visited him while he was still in hospital as well at his home after he was discharged.

He said on both occasions she told him to rather use a private investigator, whom she introduced him to.

"She also recommended that we get a private investigator that will investigate this for us and it will be quicker and faster to catch the crooks," said Botha.

Botha said the PI later handed him an invoice of R10 000 saying he will arrest the hijackers once he has been paid.

Gauteng police would not comment on Botha's claims saying he should open a case against the station commander.
