Former Pretoria advocate Dirk Prinsloo will only be extradited to South Africa once he has served his 13-year sentence in the former Soviet state of Belarus.
Prinsloo was found guilty in that country on Monday, following a foiled bank robbery last year.
The failed heist lead to his re-arrest, more than three years after he skipped bail and fled South Africa while on trial with his former girlfriend Cezanne Visser.
Officials said because the constitutions of South Africa and Belarus differ so vastly, Prinsloo will not be sent to his home country to serve out his sentence.
Apart from his prison sentence will also have to compensate authorities and his victims. Prinsloo will appeal both his conviction and sentence.
However, they said they will apply for his extradition to South Africa once his 13-year jail term has been completed, as he still faces a host of sex crimes charges here. Prinsloo skipped bail in 2006 while on trial with his Visser.
Visser was last year found guilty of a host of sex crimes charges.
