The President Jacob Zuma love child saga continues to dominate headlines.

Zuma bowed to public pressure and issued a statement on Saturday, saying he deeply regretted the pain he caused his family, the ANC, the tripartite alliance and the nation by having a child out of wedlock with soccer boss Irvin Khoza?s daughter.

Sonono Khoza's child is said to be Zuma's 20th.

Reaction has poured in following the weekend apology with Zuma's sexual behaviour in the spotlight.

Most critics said he set a bad example and did severe damage to the country's fight against HIV/Aids.

Political commentator Brookes Spector said Zuma had no choice but to apologise.

"In this case, there was no place to go other than an apology which is what he's done. The question now is what happens after the apology," he said.

This is the third time Zuma has publicly apologised to the nation over his comments or behaviour with opposition parties saying the public would not be so forgiving the next time.

Independent Democrats leader Patricia de Lille said: "The office of the president must ensure to uphold the values and dignity of that office. As far as that is concerned, our president has failed."

Zuma has a big week ahead of him as he prepares to address the nation at the opening of Parliament.

It now waits to be seen whether or not he will make any mention of this latest scandal.
