Singer Steve Hofmeyr said on Thursday he would boycott a dinner between President Jacob Zuma and Afrikaner representatives because of the president's failure to act against ANC Youth League President Julius Malema.
Hofmeyr said he was upset no representatives from government or the ruling party had spoken out against Malema's shocking hate speech.
Speaking at the University of Johannesburg this week, Malema sang 'Shoot the Boere, they are rapists'.
The ANC defended Malema and said he was quoted out of context.
Hofmeyr, who has twice previously met with Zuma as part of an Afrikaner contingent, said he would not be attending.
"I've been invited for my soiree with the president but I'm not going to go because they have no control over Julius. He's a loose cannon; he's an irrelevant little corporal. Someone from our stable, the Afrikaner stable, who would say something like that would certainly not be tolerated," he said.
