A motorcyclist and a one-year-old baby were killed when a taxi collided with the motorcycle in Welkom on Saturday, paramedics said.

ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson said the accident happened in Long Road in Welkom.

"A taxi, carrying 13 people collided with the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle and the one-year-old, a passenger in the taxi, sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead on scene," she said.

Four other taxi passengers were critically injured and were transported to the Bongani Hospital.

"Three patients were treated for moderate injuries on scene, and another five had sustained minor injuries," said Jackson.
