An Eyewitness News/City Press investigation has revealed the ANC Youth League has employed a spy to discredit those gunning for its leader Julius Malema.

Intelligence operative Micheal Peega is allegedly drawing up documents on journalists and possibly high-ranking politicians and calling them intelligence dossiers.

Sources say he draws up the damning documents which contain only a few true facts to lend credibility to the rest of the information.

The latest revelations come as the youth league faces increasing pressure.

Earlier this week, 19 political journalists publically complained that dirty tactics were being used to discredit them.

It is understood that Peega uses contacts at banks, within Sars and at Home Affairs to create information to be used against various politicians and journalists.

The youth league has gone on the offensive against reporters, with Malema accusing them of accepting brown envelopes full of money or of sleeping with politicians to get exclusives.

"We know some of you here there are people you are sleeping with. Unethical journalism, sleeping with politicians for you to get information," he said.

It is presumed Peega's dossiers were being used to target journalists in a bid to stop them from investigating certain stories about Malema and to leave him alone.

Peega used to work for Sars as an investigator and boasted to his colleagues of his close relationship with top ANC Youth League figures including Malema and current Deputy Police Minister Fikile Mbalula.

Peega himself has spoken to Eyewitness News saying the claims are not true but it is understood he is working from Anton Lembede House, the headquarters of the league's investment arm.

"I do not have any personal relations with any of the ANC Youth League members and I do not provide information with regard to any journalist or any activities."

In its reaction, the ANC Youth League said the claims were lies but refused to be recorded.
