People looking for Panjo the missing tiger said on Tuesday evening they were hoping to find him with the help of a helicopter with thermal imaging equipment and two animal tracking experts.
Two trackers have been looking for clues of the animal's whereabouts in the area ini which he was last spotted.
Panjo went missing on Monday night while he was being taken from Groblersdal to Springs by his owners.
As the sun set and the temperature dropped, the tiger was more likely to start moving and be spotted by the helicopter.
Brett Rice organised for the helicopter to help out and said it could stay in the air for a few hours.
"Obviously the cooler it is in terms of environmental conditions, the better it is for the contrast of the animal's temperature. It's a long shot but hopefully it works," he said.
Expert animal trackers predict that Panjo is likely to head towards his home.
By Wednesday morning, there was still no sign of the missing big cat.
