A man found guilty of gunning down a Mozambican in Finetown, south of Johannesburg, was sentenced to 12 years in jail by the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Thursday, police said.
Sithembiso Fumbatha was the only one of four men found guilty of the murder of Pedro Armando Mutisse, Constable Edwin Ntsheo said. The court took into consideration who shot and killed Mutisse on the morning of 8 July 2007 and witnesses evidence.
Mutisse was found dead outside his home with a bullet wound in his mouth.
The three other men were acquitted on Wednesday on all charges, including one of possession of illegal firearms, due to a lack of evidence against them.
The men, aged between 20 and 24, were arrested on 20 August 2007.
