Motorists and residents in Fourways who were affected by water gushing down William Nicol Road on Thursday have been assured the problem will be fixed soon.
Joburg Water said it had to open a water valve on Leslie Road to allow technicians to fix a valve further down.
Several cars driving along Williams Nicol had engine problems due to the water, while areas in Fourways had dry taps.
A woman, who lives in the area, said it was a frustrating day: "My water pressure slowly went down until about 11am and I've been without water since then and I've been unable to get hold of anyone at Johannesburg Water. It's just such a huge waste."
The City's Baldwin Matsimela apologised for the inconvenience, and promised to work around the clock to fix the problem.
"We have just opened the valve so that we can let the water out and allow the technicians to fix the problem. We anticipate we'll complete the job before tomorrow [Friday] morning," said Matsimela.
