A person died and two were hurt when a light aircraft crashed onto a golf course near Germiston's Rand Airport on Sunday, Netcare 911 said.

Spokesperson Nick Dollman said paramedics found that the plane had crashed into a stream on the golf course near the seventh hole.

"It appears that there were three occupants in the plane at the time of the crash," Dollman said.

"One person has died at the scene and two others have sustained very serious injuries."

The injured were taken to the Netcare Union hospital.

The accident was attended to by Netcare 911, provincial fire and ambulance services and the Saps.
