Speed limits have been reduced on the N1 freeway near construction sites, Johannesburg metro police said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said limits had been reduced from 120km/h to 80 and 60km/h.

Motorists caught not adhering to these limits would be fined.

"Those motorists travelling at 120km/h in the 80km/h zone will get a R900 fine," he said.
