A protest march will be held at the Umdloti main beach on Saturday following the culling of a hippo, Nkululeko, allegedly by wildlife officials last month.

People Acting Caring Thinking (Pact) and Animal Rights Africa would hand a memorandum to Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Officials, Pact said in a statement.

The hippo was "suspected" of killing a Verulam man, Ben Dlamini, but this had never been confirmed.

Pact said the protest was meant to challenge the amount of thought that was put into the fate of the hippo.

There was public concern over the value system of South Africa's "conservation policies."

There was also concern over "the six-month wait" for the post mortem results of Ben Dlamini.

Events would start at 10am at the Umdloti Circle.
