The white rhino cow killed by poachers in the Borakalo National Park near Brits was pregnant, the National Wildlife crime investigation unit in the North West said on Monday.

The rhino was shot some time last week and her carcass was discovered on Sunday in a dam at the park. Her horn had been taken.

Head of the investigating unit Rusty Hustler said this was the 14th rhino killed at the park this year.

More than 200 rhinos have been killed by poachers this year, compared to 122 during the whole of last year.
