The ANC's National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) could hand down a sentence to Julius Malema over the next few days.

This comes after prosecutors told the NDC panel on Thursday night that he should be expelled from the ANC.

In 2011, the panel said Malema should be suspended for five years.

The ANC's appeals panel upheld the convictions of Malema and two other ANCYL leaders.

While the NDC panel heard arguments in mitigation of sentencing for most of Thursday, it seemed ANC prosecutors did not spend too much time on their feet.

It was understood they recommended that Malema be expelled from the party.

The could send a message by following the prosecution's recommendations, or could be seen to show restraint by merely confirming Malema's five-year suspension.
