Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa on Thursday made a call for police officers to have a more humane and professional approach when dealing with people.
His comments come after accusations of police brutality which include the fatal shooting of a teenager in Soweto.
Mthethwa said incidents of police brutality have caused concern to be raised in his department.
"Police should not be brutal. When they deal with people, they should have that human touch."
He added he wanted the Independent Complaints Directorate to play a more pivotal role in monitoring police officers.
