A robber has been shot dead in a shoot-out with police in Chatsworth in KwaZulu-Natal, police said on Friday.
Lt-Col Vincent Mdunge said three armed men demanded the car keys of a motorist on the R602 on Thursday. When he resisted, they manhandled him.
Mdunge said a passing police officer noticed something was amiss. He called for back-up and the gunmen fled the scene in a car with the man's wallet containing R900.
"Police gave chase. The fleeing men shot at police who returned fire, killing one of the robbers."
Police arrested the second man, while the third was still being sought.
The arrested man would appear in Chatsworth Magistrate's Court later on Friday.
