Preparations are underway for Youth Day celebrations in Soweto, the Department of Arts and Culture said on Friday.
Saturday mark 36 years since violence erupted in the township.
Youth Day commemorates the start of the 1976 Soweto riots in which schoolboy Hector Pieterson was shot dead by police.
Youths were protesting against education laws, which stipulated that all schools were to teach in English and Afrikaans.
Department spokesperson Nomazwe Ntlokwana said several officials will attend celebrations, which begin at the Hector Peterson Memorial Square.
"The Premier [Nomvula Mokonyane], Mayor [Parks Tau] and members of the June 16 Foundation will be laying wreaths at the Hector Pieterson Memorial."
Ntlokwana said provisions were also made for young people to access government services.
