The Democratic Alliance on Friday said the R2-billion to buy President Jacob Zuma a VIP jet should rather be used to buy houses instead.
The Department of Defence has declined to comment on reports that it was in the process of finalising the purchase.
Reports indicate the deal is nearing completion with a defence delegation currently in the United States wrapping up negotiations with airplane manufacturer, Boeing.
The DA’s David Maynier said if the deal goes ahead, it will be unfair to the poor.
“We could have provided 24,000 houses for families who do not have shelter with the R2-billion that is used on a presidential jet.”
The party has submitted a request to the public protector to investigate the matter.
