The assault of a female pupil by a male teacher at an eMalahleni school has been captured on camera.
The incident at Hoërskool Patriot in Mpumalanga reportedly took place last week. A pupil in the grade nine class managed to record the footage on a cellphone.
The short video shows the teacher pulling the girl's hair, before throwing her to the ground. He then begins to kick and slap her. The pupil starts to fight back, before other learners attempt to separate the two. The teacher appears to hang onto the girl's hair as they wrestle on the ground.
According to eNCA, the Mpumalanga Education Department has since suspended the teacher. Officials added that they were investigating the incident.
The school's governing body — which will be conducting its own probe — condemned the violence.
