A Pretoria man died after being tortured allegedly at the hands of police, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said on Thursday.
The 28-year-old man was picked up by police in Ga-Rankuwa on Wednesday and was taken to the Chamdor police station, where the alleged torture took place, said spokesman Moses Dlamini in a statement.
It was unknown why he was taken to the station.
Dlamini said after the incident, the man was taken to the Leratong Hospital but was declared dead.
A post mortem would be carried out soon.
No arrests had been made yet.
