A man was beaten to death on Sunday, after he was dragged from a vehicle that ploughed into a group of children in Durban Deep, Roodepoort.

A driver was allegedly speeding through the township at around 1pm when he rammed into three children aged between 6 and 7 who were walking on the street.

Paramedics said the trio died on scene while one other child and an adult were critically injured.

They were transported to hospital for treatment.

According to rescue workers at the scene, the driver and his two passengers attempted to flee from the scene, but angry community members dragged one of the men from the Honda Ballade and beat him to death.

The other two escaped.

Police spokesperson Daniel Mavimbela said no arrests have yet been made.

He added that a case of murder was being investigated.
