The first of the apartheid-era street names in Gugulethu, Cape Town, will be renamed Stephen Biko Drive, it was reported on Thursday.
The Cape Times reported that the township's main road, NY1 (Native Yard) would be renamed on Monday to mark the launch of a renaming campaign in the area.
Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille and Western Cape premier Helen Zille would celebrate with the Biko family at Gugulethu square, to honour the struggle icon.
The "Name your Hood" campaign would invite the public to suggest names for 91 streets and eight neighbourhoods.
The voting would be open for two weeks, after which the naming committee would deliberate on the names offered.
According to the report, the city council was expected to vote on the name changes in a year.
"I hated feeling dependent on anyone else. I wanted sex to be about empowerment and pleasure."
