A man was shot by police when he tried to run away from an accident in which a woman was killed in KwaNobuhle, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.
The man was shot in the face on Sunday and was in hospital, Lt-Col Priscilla Naidu said.
He crashed into another car while fleeing from police who were trying to stop him in connection with a domestic violence case reported earlier on Sunday.
His girlfriend had opened a case with police, claiming the man had hit her with a wooden plank and a steering wheel lock.
He would be arrested after being discharged from hospital, Naidu said.
