A Johannesburg metro police officer has been arrested for allegedly shooting dead his girlfriend and her male friend in Soweto on Monday.
The 30-year-old allegedly used his service pistol to kidnap the woman from her friend's car, metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.
Later the girlfriend's mother, with the male friend, went to the officer's home in Bramfischerville, Soweto, where a fight broke out and the two were shot dead. A five-year-old boy, who lived across the road, was shot in the leg.
The officer was arrested early on Monday and stripped of his uniform, badges and service pistol. He was scheduled to appear in the Protea Magistrates' Court on Wednesday on charges of murder and attempted murder.
