Five men were arrested on Friday when police foiled a robbery at a Pretoria mall.

"We received a tip-off that they were going to rob a cash van at Kwaggasrand shopping centre. Police stopped them in their tracks," spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko said.

Police confronted the armed men and a shoot-out ensued. No one was injured. Two vehicles and five firearms, including two R-5 rifles, were confiscated.

The men would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of attempted armed robbery.
