A cyclist (22) is in a critical condition after being hit by a vehicle in Richard's Bay, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, said emergency workers.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the woman was riding with other cyclists when the accident occurred.
"A vehicle came hurtling around the road, he slammed into the cyclist, rode over her bicycle and then collided into a lamp pole," said Botha.
Paramedics found the woman had been thrown several metres from where she was hit.
"The critically injured female (was transported) to the Netcare Bay hospital for the care that she required," said Botha.
The driver of the vehicle was taken in for questioning by the police. A woman who was a passenger in the vehicle was hospitalised with serious injuries.
