As motorists prepare for a petrol price hike of 41 cents, the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry warned that the freight industry would be the worst affected by the 17 cent a litre hike in the price of diesel.

The Department of Energy this week said that the weak rand and international oil prices led to the increase.
The price adjustments would come into effect on Wednesday.

Sacci CEO Neren Rau, meanwhile, said that the increase was expected.

"The local petrol price is largely driven by the global petrol price. And, of course, while we look at the impact that the petrol price has on consumers, it is diesel that is more impactful in terms of the movement of goods."
