The trial of the man dubbed the "Modimolle Monster" was on Monday postponed to April in the North Gauteng High Court.
Johan Kotze last year admitted to torturing and mutilating his estranged wife Ina Bonnette at her home in January 2012.
He was also accused of hiring his three co-accused to gang-rape her. He allegedly shot and killed Bonnette's son. Konrad.
The trial was postponed because Kotze's advocate, Bernard Bandjies, is currently representing some of the defendants in the Boeremag trial.
Kotze would be sent back to a psychiatric hospital in Bloemfontein, where he had spent the past two months.
He would be kept there until the trial resumed. His three co-accused remained in police custody.
Pieta Mohlane, Frans Mphaka and Andries Sithole, who worked for Kotze, claimed that he forced them to rape Bonnette.
The trial was expected to last three weeks more.
