A 47-year-old woman has died after being attacked in Bo-Kaap.

The incident happened on Tuesday night while on her way to the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert at Cape Town Stadium.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut says she was with her daughter at the time.

"At approximately 6pm, a woman and her daughter were confronted by an armed man. A struggle ensued and the woman fell down a quarry in the Bo-Kaap. She died as a result of her injuries."

No one has yet been arrested.

Tens of thousands of people packed into the stadium as the rock group wrapped up its first tour to South Africa.

The musicians performed at the FNB Stadium in Soweto over the weekend.
