Killer Xolani Hlabisa was sentenced to six life terms and a further 25 years by the Mtubatuba High Court on Friday, said KwaZulu-Natal police.
Captain Thulani Zwane said Hlabisa was behind the deaths of six people in an attack on a house in Ntuzuma on Christmas Day in 2009.
Five people were wounded in the incident, which was carried out by three men armed with assault rifles, he said.
Zwane said charges against two other people were withdrawn.
