A man was stoned to death after chasing a robber who snatched his cellphone while he was driving on the N1 in Florida, police said on Thursday.
The man (23) was talking on the cellphone while driving with the vehicle's window down on Wednesday night, Captain Lydia Mtila-Dikolomela said.
Mtila-Dikolomela said someone then snatched the phone. It was not clear whether or not this happened at a traffic light.
The man apparently stopped his car and chased after the robber while his female passenger alerted the police.
The passenger saw two other men following the man as he was chasing the one who took the phone.
He was later found lying on the side of the road half-naked. Stones were strewn around and on his body. The clothes stripped from his body were found near him.
He was declared dead on the scene. A case of murder has been opened.
