ANCYL leader Julius Malema has not responded to allegations he threatened traffic officers who pulled him over.

According to a newspaper report, officers attempted to stop Malema in Limpopo in mid-October after he was caught speeding.

When the nine officers signalled that he should pull over, Malema allegedly flashed the headlights of his Range Rover to suggest he was in a hurry.

When he was eventually persuaded to stop, Malema reportedly asked an officer: "Who do you think you are? Are you not aware that I am Julius, the president of the ANC Youth League? I know that some of you hate me."

Malema then allegedly called Limpopo roads MEC Pinkie Kekana and other government officials to come to the scene.

The Democratic Alliance has since hit out at the youth leader's actions.

"By allegedly using his influence as a member of the ruling party to get a public representative to intervene in a private transgression of the law is not only to show disrespect for the rules and regulations that govern the lives of all South Africans, but contempt for democratic practice and the separation between the state and the party," the DA's Khuma Ramulifho said.

The day after the incident, the traffic department reportedly demanded written statements from the nine officers involved, asking them to explain their alleged mistreatment of Malema.
