Limpopo Roads and Transport MEC Pinky Kekana has lodged a formal complaint with the press ombudsman about media reports relating to Julius Malema and traffic fines.
The complaint has been lodged against City Press newspaper for publishing allegedly "false and malicious claims" against her and the department.
Department spokesperson Wisani Ngobeni said the paper published two articles in which it claimed to have "established that ANC Youth League president Julius Malema was not issued with a R1500 speeding fine after he sought political intervention from transport MEC Pinky Kekana".
The paper further claimed that Kekana had intervened to "save Malema from being given a traffic fine".
Ngobeni said this allegation is false and outright malicious.
"The department of roads and transport will ensure that City Press is held accountable by the press ombudsman for the gross violation of MEC Kekana's rights.
