President Jacob Zuma was expected to announce soon whether he had accepted an apology from Britain's The Guardian newspaper for an article it published about him.

The paper carried a column by Simon Jenkins in which he described Zuma as a polygamous leopard skin-draped Zulu.

A previous settlement offer from the paper was rejected but Zuma's media spokesperson Liesl Gottert said he was seriously considering a second offer.

"He'll probably consider it and come up with a decision and then we will inform his lawyers in London and we will also then inform the lawyers from The Guardian newspaper," Gottert explained.
