President Jacob Zuma has now officially appointed judges Sisi Khampepe, Johan Froneman, Chris Jafta and Moegeng Moegeng to the Constitutional Court.

They replace the four judges who officially stepped down at midnight on Sunday.

The four judges are the same four that Zuma consulted opposition parties about.

Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille says her party objected to the appointment of Moegeng.

"We think it is very sad that President Jacob Zuma's consultation process proved to be a facade and that he appointed his initial choices anyway," says Zille.

University of Cape Town law professor Pierre de Vos says there are judges with more experience.

"We don't know why the president chose him but of course the president constitutionally has the discretion to do so," says de Vos.

Generally speaking, most legal people do seem happy with these appointments.

The judges have replaced Albie Sachs, Kate O'Regan and Yvonne Mokgoro. Judge Tholie Madala retired last year.
