Political cartoonist Zapiro said on Tuesday he did not believe his latest President Jacob Zuma cartoon was too risky.

The cartoon in The Times newspaper showed Zuma reading his apology to the nation following the love child scandal with a massive shower fixed on his head.

An arrow then points to the president's groin with the words: "The only ANC member still standing up for him".

Jonathan Shapiro believes it is acceptable to poke fun at the president because he lost a lot of support in the last week, adding the cartoon was appropriate.

"I do think that this cartoon that I've done now is less risky than some of the cartoons I've done in the past. I thought it was a bit of fun. It's also a bit of an exaggeration because part of the idea of the cartoon is that nobody in the ANC supports him anymore which is an exaggeration but it's a joke you understand from the cartoon," he said.

Legal expert Pierre de Vos does not feel Zapiro got it wrong.

"One is allowed to comment on public figures so I don't think Mr Shapiro is going to have to worry about a defamation suit because it is in the public interest."
