Pakistani police have vowed to capture or kill those responsible for Tuesday's daring attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore.

Six people, including four police officers and two civilians, were killed and several cricketers injured when around twelve gunmen attacked the Sri Lankan team bus near the Gadaffi stadium.

It is understood that a dozen masked gunmen armed with rifles and rocket launchers attacked the bus.

A Pakistani police officer on the scene said they would surround the area to try to capture the attackers as soon as possible.

Journalist Gavin Scovell who was in the stadium said: "I'm literally 50 yards from where the bus is pulled up. I have just spoken to the Pakistan team to the police about the bus in front of the Sri Lankan bus that heard the noise. I actually went out to the bus to have a look and see what is going on when I heard the gunfire."

Proteas Mickey Arthur said sportsmen and women should not have to fear for their safety when doing what they are paid to do.

"And I do feel very sorry for Pakistan cricket as well. I feel sorry for their players. They are just not playing enough cricket and they are not improving," said Arthur.
