Namibian authorities are still unsure exactly how many people had died after floods devastated that most of the rural areas of the country.

Earlier this month, torrential rain flooded the Zambezi River.

The Caprivi region was worst affected.

Initial estimates were that over 100 people had been killed but aid workers cautioned that the figure was set to rise dramatically as mopping up operations continued.

A journalist at Die Republikein newspaper, Danie Booysen, told Eyewitness News the International Red Cross had moved into Namibia to assist the government with aid and help clean-up operations.

Booysen said officials were struggling to reach people cut off by the floods.
