Zimbabwe prosecutors have agreed that 18 detained activists can receive bail, a defence lawyer told AFP, one day after they were held on charges of plotting to overthrow President Robert Mugabe.

"The attorney general's office has consented that they'll be released on bail," Harrison Nkomo, a lawyer for the activists said.

"We are going to the magistrates' court to get the order for their release," which could happen later Wednesday, he added.
