The political impasse in Zimbabwe and its resulting humanitarian crisis was not out of control, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) president Joseph Kabila said in Pretoria on Friday.

"I don't think, I don't believe the problem has gotten out of hand. I believe the [unity] government is still the only solution," Kabila told reporters after a meeting with President Jacob Zuma.

As the current chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Kabila said he would be meeting with President Robert Mugabe and "of course" vice president Morgan Tsvangirai and other role players in Zimbabwe on Saturday.

Choosing not to go into the "nitty gritty", Kabila added that SADC was still of the opinion that the implementation of the unity government was Zimbabwe's only recourse to settling its economic and humanitarian crisis.
