A 78-year-old German woman was seriously injured after a 200-kilogramme plastic Christmas tree hanging from the ceiling in a shopping centre fell on her, a press report said Wednesday.

The woman, who was not named, suffered a 15-centimetre gash to he her head, damage to her skull and a bruised pelvis when the 4.5-metre high tree came crashing down on top of her, the Bild daily said.

"We hope that the cause of the accident came be quickly cleared up," the paper cited Frank Klueter, the manager of the shopping centre in the northern city of Hamburg, as saying.
