Zimbabwe's Deputy Agriculture Minister Designate Roy Bennett has warned his terrorism trial could drag on for months.

Bennett is accused of paying an arms dealer to procure weapons to help overthrow President Robert Mugabe in 2006, a charge he denies.

Bennett has described his trial as an absolute farce.

He told a UK-based radio station that he believes it could drag on for months.

The trial started on 9 November in the Harare High Court.

The state has lined up 13 witnesses, mainly police and secret service agents.

So far the court has only heard two of the witnesses; one of them, Chief Superintendent James Makone, has admitted the police actually have not finished investigating the case.

Attorney General Johannes Tomana is leading the prosecution and is causing a stir with his gang of bodyguards.

He arrives at court some days with two car loads of intelligence officers, far more than Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai is allocated.
