Furious at the death of his daughter, a policeman in western Nigeria went berserk and fired teargas at a children's hospital ward leaving three toddlers in a critical state, police said Thursday.

Makun Abodunde, police spokesperson for Oyo State, said the officer lost his temper in the state capital Ibadan on Wednesday after he learnt that his child, who had been admitted at the Oni Memorial Children's hospital, had died.

"The officer was agitated by the death of his daughter and he teargassed the children on admission. Three of them are in critical condition," he said.

Abodunde said his colleague had been arrested and would face trial for his actions.
